The Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality

The Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (ITHSA) is the southern African representative of the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) in the UK.  The CTH is a leading professional membership and awarding body in the UK. Its mission is to enhance careers in the tourism and hospitality industry all around the world. For more information, see www.cthawards.com.

The ITHSA accredits southern African training providers and supports them in rolling out the CTH’s UK-registered tourism and hospitality programmes. We also handle student assessment registrations on the CTH’s behalf.

Our courses are endorsed by important industry figures and brands, including Gordon Ramsay and his Tante Marie Culinary Academy, Virgin Atlantic, the Star Alliance, Sabre and many more.  See the full list below.

Registered Courses

Our internationally recognised courses cover tourism, hospitality and culinary arts and range from short courses through to post-graduate level programmes awarded by the CTH in the UK.

All courses are registered on the UK National Qualifications Framework (NQF) or Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Please note, that as these are British qualifications, they are not registered on the South African National Qualifications framework.

Professional Associations

The ITHSA benefits from the relationship that the CTH has with academic bodies and professional federations in the UK. This helps us keep industry standards high and our course materials relevant.  Some of these associations include the Guild of Business Travel Agents, OFQUAL, the Federation of Awarding Bodies and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

University Recognition

International universities recognise the ITHSA’s portfolio of CTH qualifications as being equivalent to degree-level studies.  If you have achieved one of these,  you can enter the second or final year of a range of tourism and hospitality degree programmes respectively. Students who have completed the Post-graduate Programme in Tourism and Hospitality can enter the final stages of an MA or MSc.
